Living on an allotment in a tiny house the size of a shed, Mr and Mrs Chickweed show off their prizewinning vegetables for the last time before they retire. However they can't resist planting one last seed and as the Enormous Turnip grows it threatens their house with disaster! Can anyone help them pull up the Enormous Turnip?
Following sell-out performances last year, Stuff and Nonsense Theatre Company return with unswerving energy, eccentric puppetry and live music in a re-potted version of the world-famous children’s story.
The Enormous Turnip was created in 2009 as a commission for Lighthouse, Poole, in association with Salisbury Playhouse and support from The Merlin Theatre. Having enjoyed touring on the small-scale and extensive Christmas runs in Ipswich, Plymouth and London, The Enormous Turnip is now touring to middle scale stages, charged with an energy to take inventive and playful work of the highest quality to bigger audiences.
Stuff and Nonsense loves to make energetic, thought-provoking and playfully mischievous theatre productions for children aged 2 upwards and their families. We work with children to create ideas, using the power of great imagination, fantastic puppetry and lots of physical action. Artistic Director - Niki McCretton is an expert in working in early years settings and in inspiring the imagination and creative energy of all ages. She has been creating and touring theatre throughout the UK and Internationally for 20 years and is passionate about making theatre that is just as engaging for parents as it is for children.
Since 2001 we have produced and toured two versions of 3 Little Pigs, The Little Red Hen, The Enormous Turnip, The Elves and the Shoemaker and The Hare and The Tortoise across small and middle scale venues. We are very popular at Christmas and often present four or five productions across the UK at once! Even more productions are in the pipeline so visit our website www.aloadofstuffandnonsense.co.uk to see what we're up to and what's coming soon!
Stuff and Nonsense is Salisbury Playhouse’s Associate Company. Niki is Resident Artist at Lighthouse, Poole.
